Spirituality is not a new term, but in recent years the emergence of modern spirituality has brought the idea of spiritual guidance and awareness to the forefront of many conversations around general well being, personal growth, conscious awareness, and purposeful living.
But what is modern spirituality, and how is it different? Modern spirituality is not a theory, nor does it have anything to do with religion. It doesn’t involve prayer or incorporate a designated set of beliefs. It is essentially a journey of personal growth and transformation that means shifting our mindset, connecting with our inner guidance, and living in a holistic way that encompasses our mind, body, and soul.
What the “Modern” Means
The differentiator in the new age of spirituality is that it focuses on the ways we apply spiritual practice to life in the 21st century. The way we live in today’s world is very different than it was 10 years ago – or even a year ago. That means the way we incorporate spirituality into our everyday lives has had to change. A fast-paced society calls for a greater emphasis on stillness, quieting our mind, and deepening our own inner guidance to navigate a modern set of challenges.
Purpose and Intention
As spirituality has started to come to the forefront of more conversations, and as a new conscious-focused generation is rising, many of us are feeling the pull towards pursuing our higher passions, to go inward and uncover our purpose and higher calling.
Modern spirituality focuses on holistic awareness. That means making space to access what our soul needs, to discover our unfiltered intentions, and what we need to do in our own lives to ensure we are living a life that aligns with our purpose, our goals, and our values. Without this connection, we often feel lost, disconnected and even unfulfilled – regardless of the gratitude we have for what’s around us and what we’ve achieved.
Holistic Living
The definition of holistic is “characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.” That can be a lot to process. So, simply put, holistic means a sum of pieces that are deeply connected, and all of the pieces must be present to be fully connected. When applied to modern spirituality, holistic living means that we are living with our entire selves, not through our ego or what “should” be.
It means that we take into account the health and needs of our soul, our emotional health, and our mental health when we are aligned with our choices and lifestyle.
Spirituality and Intuition
The relationship between spirituality and intuition is intrinsic. They work together to deepen your personal alignment which organically fuels massive self growth and healing. When we grow and strengthen our intuition – it serves as the path to awaken our spirituality, our purpose, and our authentic selves. The more open we are to embracing our intuition, the totality of our senses, the more we step into our power in a lasting and unshakeable way.
