So much of our intuitive connection – and our day to day life – is based in energy. How we receive it, how we interpret it, what kind of energy we let in, and what kind of energy we exert. Energy is also our thoughts and words we speak, conscious and the unconscious. Everything is energy.

A lot of the clients I work with are experiencing similar blocks – they feel disconnected from their body and soul, they feel stuck, or they just simply can’t move forward and not sure why. While there are a host of factors that create these blocks – the biggest is by far an imbalance of energy.

When we don’t have a strong connection to ourselves, our inner knowing, and our intuition, how can you discern what is your energy or not your energy? And balancing your energy is imperative if you’re seeking to find balance in your own life holistically.

Don’t Always Skip to Blocking it Out

I’m just too overwhelmed. I just need to disconnect. How many times have you said that to yourself? And here’s the thing – we do need to disconnect, it’s crucial to recharging. But what we’re seeking is to disconnect from outside influences. We don’t want to take it so far that we start disconnecting from ourselves.

When we skip right to trying to block energy – or suppress it – we’re actually missing out on signals from our intuition. We may completely gloss over what our inner wisdom is trying to communicate to us. Take alone time when you need it, but make sure you’re using that alone time to process and feel the energy you’re receiving, and try to take note of how it feels in your body. We have to acknowledge energy before we can balance it.

Focus on Energy During Meditation

While meditation is powerful for quieting the mind, it’s a tool used to focus in on your energy – balancing it, honing it, and ultimately understanding it. Meditation focused on energy is all about tuning in to our bodies and pinpointing the physical sensations that arise. One of my favorite exercises during meditation:

  1. Think of a word, phrase, or event that you associate with positivity. It can be a good friend, a recent happy experience – whatever may be fresh in your mind that you know brings you joy. Once you’re grounded in your meditation, say the word or phrase either out loud or to yourself.
  2. As soon as you say it, immediately take note of how you physically feel. Do you get a tingling in your palms? A heaviness at the back of your neck? These indicators are how positive energy reads in your body.
  3. Next, repeat the same process but with a word, phrase or event that you associate with negative feelings. Something that may bring you stress, or even just something you consider unpleasant.
  4. Take note of how saying the negative word orf phrase makes you feel. Do you get a dropping sensation in your stomach? Do you experience a pain somewhere in your body? That’s how your body reacts energetically to negative information.

When we are able to identify the various types of energy and energetic responses it becomes much easier to balance it. When we can acknowledge the energy we’re feeling, we can work through negative energy and accept positive energy more innately. And, with enough practice, it will become second nature.

Energy is powerful. It’s beautiful and soulful. The key to gaining the most insight from energy is balance.
